  Het boek is uit!   Het is al gedrukt en ligt binnenkort in de winkels. Ik ben trots en vereerd dat ik mijn bescheiden bijdrage mocht leveren aan dit prachtige boekje: ik heb de illustraties gemaakt voor acht prachtige verhalen van Dimphy Timmers.    In januari schreef ik  over hoe het allemaal begon. Het was een uitzonderlijk goed en efficiënt teamwerk met Peter van Noort, Jeanet de Jong, de drukker MarneVeenstra. In no-time waren we klaar met vormgeving, correcties en publiciteitsstrategie zodat het boekje snel kon worden uitgegeven en gepresenteerd. En het was totaal onverwacht en ontroerend om mee te maken dat een aantal particuliere sponsors vanuit eigen initiatief het harde kaft van het boekje hebben gefinancierd.     Charlotte Penders heeft over deze sprookjesbundel een mooi  artikel  geschreven, het is nu gepubliceerd in De Amelander nr. 3 van 2024. 18 mei, op de verjaardag van Dimphy, wordt het boek gepresenteerd in de Heerskamer van Herberg de Zwaan door het vertelcollectief

  Ruby! Potatoes! Just like in Downstairs X , the idea for this one comes from visiting the manor house of the Menkemaborg estate. The kitchen maid, cleaning vegetables for the cook, is inspired by poor dear Ruby, the character from the great 1970s British TV series "Upstairs, Downstairs".       Oil on canvas 40 x 30 cm, alla prima, limited palette.   Back to Hands' Private Life  Rewards from nature can sometimes be difficult to obtain but are always satisfying. Take a look at this harvest from the apple trees in our garden.  It appears that I have neglected my "Hands" series for a while, but I am now returning to it.  ...more soon... Bedstede in the kitchen The next one in the Downstairs series depicts the very Dutch historic interior of the sleeping place located in the corner of the kitchen in the gorgeous house of the Menkemaborg estate.  This "closet bed" was very common in the Netherlands until the early 20th century. In fact, even our own old house has those closets, too.   These particular closet beds provided living space for the kitchen servants right at the workplace, which was quite practical and economical during those times.  If you are interested in learning more about these beds, you can check out the  Box bed  on Wikipedia. During my visit to this house, I was mesmerized by the afternoon light streaming in from the small windows and illuminating the vivid red wooden closet wall and the huge oak beam.
