"Kunstmiddagen" at Museum Sorgdrager

Starting today, the Amelander Musea will host "Kunstmiddagen" (Art Afternoons) weekly at the Museum Sorgdrager in Hollum (Ameland). I will be volunteering by leading art talks every other Wednesday.

Here is a brief overview from the page we maintain for this event:

"Art Talks. In collaboration with the Ameland Museums Foundation.

Starting in the summer of 2026, this project will launch at Museum Sorgdrager. Every Wednesday afternoon, we will hold an art event in the museum. Every other week, conservator Mathilda van der Weij will lead an engaging tour of the permanent and temporary exhibitions. On the alternate week, I will facilitate discussions with interested visitors about a specific masterpiece from art history. During these discussions, we will explore the techniques used in the artwork and how to apply them to our own creations.

As a volunteer for this project, I am passionate about learning and sharing knowledge with fellow art lovers and creators. Together, we will constructively analyse and discuss each other’s work to inspire one another. Our goal is to deepen our understanding of art, stimulate our curiosity, and encourage one another to explore new ideas and techniques. There is always so much to discover!

Master Studies

Studying I believe that practice is the best form of learning, and master copying is the most effective to practice while studying. Since we always (aspire to) learn, I find that copying a masterpiece that inspires you is an excellent method to achieve this. You'll Get Over It

What could possibly happen? Something tragic, I assume. I am sure you can imagine dozens of situations where this setting could be possible. Regret, revelation, anger, shock, despair, compassion, support, consolation, reassurance, forgiveness, unbelief, doubt, fear... All of these might apply to the people in this painting. And all these are actually expressed with hands. And there will be nothing of these when you think those hands away, I'm afraid. This is another small one in my series Hands' Private Life. I painted it all prima with my limited palette of Burnt sienna, Ultramarine blue, Yellow ochre, Cadmium red and Titanium white. As reference, I used the photographs Paul and myself took of me and my hands, in four different settings. Valta & Sorgdrager Museum

Another summer show Some exciting news! Two of my paintings, which capture details of the exterior and interior of the historic Sorgdrager House, have been selected by the Amelander Musea for a summer exhibition at the Sorgdrager Museum. I am very proud to have my work represented there with pieces titled " Bij Sorgdrager " and " Downstairs VII ". Update December 2025: The Amelander Musea Foundation has acquired five paintings of mine, these two among them.
